reusing the unrecyclable

TURNING BROKEN WETSUITS, BANNERS AND INFLATABLES INTO SOMETHING UNIQUE & HANDMADE

PASSIONATE ABOUT MAKING A CHANGE

Welcome to Flotsam Flo! Based in Cornwall, all of our products are handmade by me, Kate. I am passionate about making a change. There is a big problem with plastic pollution and items that can't easily be recycled going to waste, such as wetsuits, lifejackets, inflatables and banners. I would like to help reduce this waste issue and pollution by using as many of these materials as I can, turning them into really cool handmade items for you. With your support, I can make more items, reducing plastic pollution and helping to save our beautiful landscape and world one item at a time.

All of our items are hand made in Cornwall and are often unique due to how they have been made and the materials used. A lot of our items include the original features, such as the stoppers from the inflatables or whistles from the life jackets.

"There's no such word as can't..."

In 2019, I had a life changing brain haemorrhage which made me realise tomorrow is never promised and that I need to follow my dreams. Granny Florence was an inspiration who told me there was "no such word as can't" and that "anything is possible". I wouldn't have made such a positive recovery without this upbringing and hence, I named my business after her. You can read more about my story here. I work with a couple of charities which are close to my heart, reusing their waste materials and turning them into items. If you are a business looking to improve sustainability then we can help, turning your uniforms into cushion covers or banners into key rings for corporate gifts or events! Read more here.

I am passionate about making a change and before my brain haemeorrhage, I was a teacher of Art and DT. I have launched upcycling & sewing workshops based near Redruth, as well as delivering a number of guest speaker talks, spreading the awareness of plastic pollution and showing people there is another way.  I try and use as much waste as possible, but I am unfortunately not able to use every item. Read more information about this and our collection points here. I am SO grateful for all your donations but I am currently pausing these whilst I have a sort out and tidy up and getting ready for the Summer season.
